Every list like this is written by somebody selling something, so let’s be upfront: ChatOwl (number 5 below) is ours. What we can promise is honest numbers: every price here was checked in August 2026 against the vendor’s own site, and for several of the options below we plainly say who should pick them instead of us.
The quick answer by situation
- Service business that wants it done for you (aircon, clinics, salons, contractors): a managed Malaysian AI service, ChatOwl or ForwardChat.
- Online seller on Shopee/Lazada/TikTok Shop with a support team: Zaapi or respond.io.
- You have a technical person and want full DIY control: WATI or respond.io.
- Under 10 messages a day: skip all of this and use WhatsApp Business’s free auto replies.
1. WATI (from USD 25/month)
One of the most popular DIY platforms in Malaysia. Shared inbox, broadcast, a no-code chatbot builder on the official API. Growth plan is USD 25/month (about RM110) and Pro USD 75, plus per-user fees beyond the included seats, Meta’s per-message broadcast fees, and metered AI credits. Fits: teams that want to build and own their flows. Watch for: the bot answers only what you build, and the stack of USD fees grows with usage.
2. respond.io (from USD 79/month)
KL-founded and genuinely powerful: team inboxes, workflows, AI agents, deep integrations. Starter is USD 79/month, Growth USD 159 (where AI agents unlock), priced by monthly active contacts. Fits: bigger teams running WhatsApp, IG and web chat as a support operation. Watch for: it is enterprise-leaning software; a solo owner will use a tenth of it and still pay in USD.
3. Zaapi (from USD 79/month + AI metered)
Singapore/Thailand platform pushing into Malaysia, strongest at marketplace e-commerce: it pulls Shopee and Lazada order data right into the chat. Plans are USD 79 to 179 monthly plus USD 40 per 1,000 AI messages. Fits: marketplace sellers with a support team; that order-sync is genuinely useful. Watch for: the AI meter charges more the more it answers, its AI cannot read PDFs or images, and there is no real booking engine.
4. ForwardChat (from RM299/month)
A Malaysian managed AI service on the official Cloud API, running Claude AI with BM, English, Chinese and Manglish support and a 7-day trial. Honestly, a solid local product and our closest competitor. Fits: Malaysian SMEs that want real AI without DIY. Watch for: compare the specifics that matter to you: how quoting from your price list works, and how appointment booking is handled.
5. ChatOwl (RM299 to RM999/month flat), ours
A managed AI front desk built for Malaysian service businesses. We set it up on your real price list, so it quotes actual price ranges, reads photos and floor plans on higher plans, and books appointments from your real calendar with every booking held for your approval. BM, English and Chinese. Flat Ringgit pricing, free setup, no per-message AI fees; WhatsApp AI comes in at the RM499 plan. Fits: owner-run businesses where enquiries become quotes and bookings. Watch for: if you want marketplace order-sync or a big multi-agent helpdesk, options 2 and 3 do that better.
6. Chateefy (pricing on request)
A Malaysian no-code flow builder with a team inbox and lead capture from FB and Instagram. Public pricing is not listed. Fits: SMEs comfortable building menu-style flows. Watch for: flow bots answer what you predicted; check how it handles free-text BM questions before committing.
7. Wasapbot (BM-market tool)
A Malay-language platform combining a GPT-based keyword chatbot with bulk sending, contact extraction and number warm-up features. It does not advertise the official WhatsApp Business API. Fits: price-sensitive users who accept the trade-offs. Watch for: Meta bans numbers connected through unofficial methods, and bulk blasting is the fastest way to trigger that. If your WhatsApp number matters to your business, stay on official-API tools.

How to actually choose
Ignore feature lists and ask three questions. One: who builds and maintains it? If the answer is “me, at 11pm”, pick managed. Two: what happens to a real question like “aircond bocor, esok boleh datang? berapa?”: a menu, a canned line, or an actual answer with a price range and a slot? Test each vendor’s demo with your own hardest question. Three: what does a busy month cost? USD plans with per-message or per-contact meters grow with success; flat RM plans do not. The deeper comparison of reply quality is in auto reply chatbot vs real AI, and the full landscape including free options in WhatsApp bot Malaysia.
