WhatsApp Bot Malaysia: Your Real Options in 2026 (and What They Cost)

There are four realistic ways to put a bot on your business WhatsApp in Malaysia, from free to a few thousand ringgit a month. This guide lays out all four with real prices (checked August 2026), so you can pick by budget and by how much you want the bot to actually do.

Option 1: WhatsApp Business built-in auto replies (free)

The free WhatsApp Business app includes away messages, greeting messages and quick replies. No extra software, two minutes to set up (guide here).

Good for: low message volume, simple questions.
The catch: one fixed text, answers nothing, captures nothing. Details in what auto reply can and cannot do.

Option 2: Grey-market blasters and unofficial bots (avoid)

Tools that run on a hacked WhatsApp Web session, often sold for bulk blasting. They are against WhatsApp’s terms, and Meta bans numbers using them, sometimes taking years-old business numbers down with all their chat history. Whatever a reseller promises, there is no such thing as a ban-proof unofficial tool. If a price looks too good and the word “blast” appears anywhere, that is your sign.

Option 3: DIY platforms on the official API (USD pricing)

Platforms like WATI, respond.io or Zaapi give you a dashboard on the official WhatsApp Business API: shared inbox, broadcast, flow builders and an AI add-on. You build and run it yourself. Real prices as of August 2026:

  • WATI: from USD 25/month (about RM110) for the Growth plan, USD 75/month for Pro, plus per-user fees beyond the included seats, plus Meta’s per-message fees for broadcasts, with AI features metered by credits.
  • Zaapi: from USD 79/month (about RM335), plus USD 40 per 1,000 AI messages on top. The meter grows as the AI answers more.

Good for: teams with someone technical who enjoys building flows, and e-commerce sellers who need marketplace integrations.
The catch: USD pricing that stacks (base + seats + AI usage + Meta fees), and the bot is only as good as the flows you build and maintain yourself.

Option 4: Managed AI service (RM pricing, done for you)

The newer local option: a provider sets up an AI on your WhatsApp and website, trains it on your actual price list and FAQs, and maintains it. You approve bookings and take over any chat; the AI does the repetitive answering in BM, English and Chinese.

This is what we do at ChatOwl: flat Ringgit pricing at RM299, RM499 or RM999 a month depending on features (WhatsApp AI comes in from the RM499 plan), free setup, no per-message AI fees. Fair-use limits apply instead of a meter, so a busy month does not become an expensive one. The honest trade-off versus Option 3: less DIY control, because we manage it for you, which is exactly the point for an owner with no time.

How to choose

  • Under ~10 messages a day, simple questions: stay on the free built-in tools.
  • Online store on Shopee/Lazada with a support team: a DIY platform with marketplace integrations fits, budget in USD.
  • Service business where enquiries become quotes and bookings (aircon, clinics, salons, contractors, tuition): a managed AI usually wins, because the value is in answers and booked slots, not dashboards. Common questions

Is there a totally free WhatsApp bot for business?

The free tier is WhatsApp Business’s built-in auto replies. Anything that genuinely answers customers runs on the official API and costs money, either your time on a DIY platform or a monthly fee for a managed service.

What is the official WhatsApp Business API?

Meta’s sanctioned way for software to send and receive WhatsApp messages for a business. All legitimate bots, DIY or managed, run on it.

Can I keep my existing WhatsApp number?

Yes. A number can be moved onto the official API, and that process should be handled carefully so your chats and customers carry over properly.
